Russia Launches Largest Air Assault on Ukraine in 24 Hours as War Intensifies

Russia has carried out its largest aerial attack on Ukraine within 24 hours, targeting multiple regions with drones and missiles, causing civilian casualties and raising concerns over escalating conflict.

Kathmandu — Russia has carried out its largest aerial assault on Ukraine within a 24-hour period, marking the most extensive use of drones and missiles since the war began, according to international media reports.

Escalation Amid Global Distractions

The escalation comes as global attention remains partly focused on rising tensions in the Middle East, with analysts suggesting the latest strikes indicate weakening diplomatic momentum and reduced prospects for a ceasefire.

According to reports, Russia launched hundreds of drones toward Ukraine over the past day. Ukrainian officials said a significant number of attacks began early Tuesday and continued in multiple waves throughout the day, resulting in civilian casualties in several locations.

Civilian Impact and Infrastructure Damage

Western regions of Ukraine, previously considered less affected by the conflict, were also targeted. In Lviv, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed area sustained damage, and fires were reported in nearby residential buildings, according to local authorities.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a maternity hospital was struck, raising concerns over attacks on civilian infrastructure. Officials reported casualties and injuries across multiple cities as emergency services responded to the incidents.

Ukraine’s air force said it intercepted many of the incoming drones and missiles but confirmed that several strikes hit targets across the country.

War Outlook and Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the scale of the latest attack shows Russia has no intention of ending the war, stating that such actions undermine prospects for peace.

Meanwhile, authorities in Russia reported that Ukrainian drone strikes in the Kursk region caused casualties, highlighting the continued cross-border nature of the conflict.

The war, which began in February 2022, remains ongoing with no immediate resolution in sight. Despite international efforts to revive peace talks, recent developments suggest negotiations have stalled as fighting intensifies.
