Neymar Gives $250K for Venezuela Earthquake Victims
The Brazil forward pledged financial support for earthquake survivors as rescue teams continue searching for missing people and the humanitarian crisis deepens.
Brazilian football star Neymar has pledged US$250,000 to support relief efforts in Venezuela after powerful earthquakes left widespread destruction and a mounting humanitarian crisis.
The donation is expected to help provide food, clean drinking water, medicines and temporary shelter for families displaced by the disaster. In a message expressing solidarity with those affected, Neymar said he hoped the victims would be able to rebuild their lives and return to normal as quickly as possible.
Natural disasters often leave communities struggling long after the initial impact, and relief support remains critical as emergency teams continue working in affected areas.
Heavy Human Toll After Twin Earthquakes
Two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck different parts of Venezuela on Wednesday, causing extensive damage across several regions.
Authorities have confirmed at least 1,430 deaths, while more than 3,200 people have been injured. More than 3,000 families have also been forced to leave their homes.
Search and rescue operations are continuing, with teams still looking for people believed to be trapped or missing. Rescue efforts, however, have been slowed by repeated aftershocks and a shortage of essential equipment.
Neymar’s Fitness Boosts Brazil Ahead of Knockout Clash
Away from the humanitarian response, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has said Neymar’s recovery from injury has progressed significantly ahead of the FIFA World Cup knockout stage.
After missing Brazil’s opening two matches because of injury, Neymar returned as a second-half substitute against Scotland.
According to Ancelotti, the forward, who was only capable of playing around 15 minutes not long ago, is now fit enough to remain on the pitch for much longer. He is expected to play an important role when Brazil face Japan in the World Cup knockout round.
Brazil secured the top spot in Group C, extending its record of finishing as group winners in 12 consecutive FIFA World Cup appearances.
