Resham Chaudhary Submits Explanation After Candidacy Complaint in Kailali-1

Resham Chaudhary has appeared before the Election Officer’s Office to submit an explanation following a complaint filed against his House of Representatives candidacy from Kailali Constituency No. 1.

Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal and a House of Representatives candidate from Kailali Constituency No. 1, has appeared at the Election Officer’s Office to submit his explanation after a complaint was filed against his candidacy.

Complaint Filed, Office to Decide Today

Chaudhary registered his nomination on Magh 6, while the complaint questioning his eligibility was filed the following day, on Magh 7. After learning about the complaint, he personally visited the Election Officer’s Office on Thursday and presented his clarification.

Officials at the Election Officer’s Office said a decision on whether his candidacy will be approved or rejected is expected later today. The decision, they said, will be based on a review of both the complaint and the explanation submitted by Chaudhary.

Legal Background and Earlier Election Case

Chaudhary was previously convicted in connection with the Tikapur incident and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was later released after receiving a presidential pardon on the recommendation of the government. However, the House of Representatives Election Act states that individuals sentenced to life imprisonment are not eligible to contest parliamentary elections, which forms the basis of the complaint against him.

This is not the first time Chaudhary’s nomination has faced legal scrutiny. In the 2079 general election, he had filed his candidacy from Bardiya Constituency No. 2, but it was rejected as he was in prison at the time.

After that rejection, his father, Lalbir Chaudhary, contested the election from the same constituency as an independent candidate. He later joined the Nagarik Unmukti Party and is currently associated with the party.
