Kathmandu — The second Special General Convention of the Nepali Congress began on Sunday at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, as delegates from across the country gathered for the party’s key internal meeting.
The registration process for convention representatives started at 8:00 am. Organizers said that by around 9:00 am, approximately 10 percent of the total delegates had completed registration. Separate registration desks have been arranged for all seven provinces to manage the process efficiently.
Nepali Congress Central Committee member Ajaybabu Shivakoti said there are 4,743 convention representatives nationwide.
“By 9:00 am, around 10 percent of the delegates had registered,” Shivakoti said. “Registration desks have been set up separately for all seven provinces. Long queues are still visible, which suggests participation will be encouraging.”
According to Shivakoti, more than 60 percent of the convention representatives are expected to attend the Special General Convention.
Delegates from different parts of the country continue to arrive in Kathmandu, while party supporters and Congress workers have also started gathering at the convention venue.
Rallies Before Inauguration
Ahead of the formal inauguration, participants are scheduled to hold rallies from six locations in Kathmandu. The convention organizing committee said the opening session will begin at 12:00 noon at Bhrikutimandap.
The party secretariat stated that rallies from all designated routes will start at 11:00 am. After the rallies converge at Bhrikutimandap, the formal inauguration ceremony will be held, followed by the start of the closed-door session. The second Special General Convention is scheduled to continue through Monday.
According to the convention management secretariat, the rallies will proceed toward Bhrikutimandap from Kupandol in Lalitpur and from Sundhara, Ratnapark, Padmakanya Campus Chowk, Shankardev Campus, and Kamalpokhari in Kathmandu.
