Nepal Parliament Meets to Confirm Speaker Today

House set to endorse Dol Prasad Aryal as Speaker; National Assembly to reshuffle committees

Nepal’s Federal Parliament Meeting will convene both houses on Sunday, with key decisions expected on the Speaker’s formal appointment and committee restructuring.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to meet at 11:00 AM at the multipurpose hall of the under-construction Federal Parliament building in Singha Durbar. The main agenda includes presenting a proposal to formally endorse Dol Prasad Aryal as Speaker. Although Aryal has already been elected unopposed, the meeting will complete the official parliamentary process through a decision vote.

Aryal, a senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, was nominated for the Speaker’s position with strong backing from within his party. The proposal was put forward by party chairman and lawmaker Rabi Lamichhane, with support from Members of Parliament Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam, and Sunil Lamsal. The Federal Parliament Meeting Nepal is expected to finalize this appointment smoothly, given the absence of competing candidates.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly will convene at 12:15 PM at Singha Durbar. The agenda for the upper house focuses on internal organizational matters. The chairperson will nominate and reshuffle members of various thematic committees, which play a key role in reviewing legislation and overseeing government functions. In addition, members who will preside over meetings in the absence of the chairperson and vice-chairperson will also be designated.

Another key highlight of the day’s proceedings is the presentation of the annual report of the National Women Commission for the fiscal year 2081/82. The report will be tabled by Prime Minister Balen Shah, reflecting ongoing efforts to address women’s rights, policy implementation, and institutional accountability.

The Federal Parliament Meeting Nepal comes at a time when parliamentary activities are gaining momentum, with leadership roles being formalized and committees being strengthened to improve governance and legislative efficiency.

Sunday’s session is expected to streamline parliamentary leadership and structure, setting the stage for more active legislative work in the coming weeks under the Federal Parliament Meeting Nepal agenda.
