Kathmandu — Senior border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha has said the upcoming government must prioritize resolving Nepal’s border disputes.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Shrestha said previous governments had failed to make meaningful progress in addressing boundary issues. He stressed that the new government, particularly if led by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), should treat the matter as a top priority.
Shrestha noted that although Nepal published a revised political map including Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura, no concrete progress has been made in reclaiming the territories. He emphasized the need for strong diplomatic efforts to formally raise the issue with India and take it to structured negotiations.
He also pointed out that the RSP’s election manifesto includes a commitment to resolving border disputes, urging the party to act accordingly once in power. He said the return of the disputed territories should be pursued through diplomatic channels with a clear and strategic approach.
Stating that there is sufficient evidence supporting Nepal’s claim over the areas, Shrestha added that resolving the dispute would require dialogue not only with India but also with China.
