Kami Rita Sherpa Climbs Everest for Record 32nd Time
Veteran Nepali mountaineer extends his own world record as Lhakpa Sherpa also sets a new women’s Everest milestone.
The world’s highest peak has once again become the stage for a historic moment led by Nepali climbers.
Veteran mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has scaled Mount Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own world record and further cementing his legacy as the most successful Everest climber in history.
According to Seven Summit Treks, the 56-year-old reached the summit at 10:12 am on Saturday. After completing the climb, he and his team began their descent toward base camp safely, while preparations for a grand welcome in Kathmandu are already underway.
Born in Thame village of Solukhumbu, Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994. Over the past three decades, he has become one of the defining figures of global mountaineering, repeatedly summiting not only Everest but also several of the world’s tallest mountains including K2, Manaslu, and Lhotse.
His career statistics remain unmatched. Kami Rita has successfully climbed peaks above 8,000 meters more than 45 times, a feat few climbers in the world have come close to achieving. Within the international climbing community, he is widely known as the “Everest Man,” a title earned through consistency, endurance, and extraordinary high-altitude experience.
Kami Rita Continues to Push Everest History Higher
What makes Kami Rita’s record particularly remarkable is not only the number itself, but the sustained level of performance over decades in one of the world’s harshest environments.
In recent years, he has repeatedly broken his own records, turning every successful ascent into another historic milestone for Nepal’s mountaineering legacy. At one point, he even completed five Everest summits within a single climbing season, underscoring a level of physical resilience and technical expertise rarely seen in Himalayan expeditions.
For many in Nepal’s tourism and adventure sectors, his achievements represent more than personal success. They are viewed as a symbol of the country’s unmatched contribution to high-altitude climbing and Himalayan guiding culture.
Lhakpa Sherpa Sets Women’s Everest Record
The historic day for Nepali mountaineering did not end with Kami Rita’s achievement.
Renowned climber Lhakpa Sherpa also created history by becoming the woman with the highest number of Everest ascents after successfully summiting the mountain for the 11th time.
Tourism Department Director Himal Gautam confirmed that Lhakpa reached the summit at 9:30 am.
Often referred to as the “Mountain Queen,” Lhakpa Sherpa was born in Makalu-2 of Sankhuwasabha district and has long been celebrated as one of Nepal’s most accomplished female climbers. Her latest ascent is being seen as another landmark moment in the history of Nepali women in mountaineering.
Nepal Draws Global Attention Again
With both the men’s and women’s Everest summit records now strengthened by Nepali climbers on the same day, Nepal’s mountaineering community has once again captured international attention.
The twin milestones have reinforced Nepal’s position at the center of the global Himalayan climbing world — not only as the home of Everest, but as the birthplace of some of the greatest mountaineers the world has ever seen.
