Harka Sampang Signals Political Retaliation After Arrest of K.P Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak

Harka Sampang says the arrest of K.P Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak reflects retaliatory politics, warning of growing tensions and possible protests.

Kathmandu — Harka Sampang Rai, chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party, has indicated that the arrest of former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak reflects a pattern of political retaliation.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Sampang said the current developments validate concerns he had previously raised about retaliatory politics in Nepal. He stated that regardless of who comes to power, political revenge continues to shape the country’s political landscape.

He also warned that the situation could lead to public dissatisfaction and potential protests in the coming days, indicating a risk of rising political tensions.

Oli and Lekhak were arrested early Saturday in connection with a case involving a death allegedly caused by negligence during the “Gen Z movement” on Bhadra 23. Both are being held at the Kathmandu District Police Range for investigation.

Police said Oli was taken to a hospital for a routine medical examination following his arrest and will be returned to custody after the check-up. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing.
