Kathmandu — Gokul Baskota, a central committee member of the CPN-UML and former minister, has expressed concern over India’s decision to resume trade with China through the Lipulekh route, despite objections from Nepal.
India has announced that the Lipulekh Pass trade route, which had remained closed for several years, will reopen from June 1. Following the announcement, Baskota shared his views on social media.
He said that although the territory is included in Nepal’s official map, control remains with others, calling it a serious issue for the country. He added that Nepal is being left to watch as its two neighboring countries conduct significant economic activities near its claimed land.
Baskota stated that the situation reflects not only a territorial concern but also the impact of geopolitical power and timing, emphasizing the need for Nepal to strengthen its diplomatic efforts to protect national interests. The Government of Nepal has not yet issued an official response on the matter.
