Kathmandu — CPN-UML leader Basudev Ghimire has recalled the final days of Nepal’s Panchayat system after suffering defeat in the House of Representatives election from Rupandehi-3.
Ghimire contested the parliamentary election from the constituency but failed to secure enough votes to retain his security deposit. After the results were announced, he shared a message on social media reflecting on the political atmosphere during the collapse of the Panchayat regime.
Social Media Remark After Election Result
In a Facebook post, Ghimire wrote that when the Panchayat system was nearing its collapse, its supporters continued repeating the same message: “Everything is fine, Maharaj,” even as the system was falling apart.
Ghimire had earlier announced that he would leave the CPN-UML before the election. However, after discussions with senior party leaders, including Vice Chairperson Bishnu Paudel, he remained in the party and contested the election as a UML candidate.
In the election, Ghimire was defeated by Dr. Lekhjang Thapa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the Rupandehi-3 constituency.
