Nepali Congress to Review Performance of Local and Provincial Governments

Kathmandu — Nepali Congress has decided to conduct a comprehensive review of the performance of local and provincial governments led by its elected representatives, aiming to strengthen coordination and improve governance effectiveness.

The review will be led by party Vice President bishwaprakash Sharma, who has been assigned to oversee a detailed assessment of governance at both local and provincial levels. The study will focus on policy implementation, responsiveness to public needs, and institutional coordination.

The decision was made during a Central Working Committee meeting held on Wednesday. The meeting emphasized the need to reassess the roles and performance of party representatives across different levels of government and to identify measures to enhance effectiveness and coordination.

The party will also evaluate whether to continue its participation in provincial governments. In addition, the review will examine the implementation status of past agreements and political understandings, which will inform future strategic decisions.

Furthermore, the party plans to form a separate committee under Sharma’s coordination to study provincial governance structures, good governance practices, and leadership roles. The committee will consult with provincial leaders and stakeholders to develop concrete proposals.

Currently, Nepali Congress leads governments in Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces. The review will assess achievements, challenges, and coordination efforts in these provinces to guide the party’s future political direction.
