‘We’re Not Balen’s Police’: Kailali DSP Called In Over Viral Speech
DSP Prasanna Raj Chaudhary has been called in by Kailali police leadership as officials examine his public speech alongside earlier complaints related to his conduct and professional responsibilities.
A public speech by DSP Prasanna Raj Chaudhary, chief of the Sukhad Area Police Office in Kailali, has prompted internal questioning by Nepal Police, with the inquiry extending beyond his recent remarks to include concerns previously raised about his conduct and professional responsibilities.
The speech was delivered during an anti-drug awareness programme in Darkha, Ward No. 5 of Ghodaghodi Municipality. While addressing the gathering, Chaudhary said the police were accountable to the institution rather than to any individual, stating, “We are not Balen’s police; we are Nepal Police,” before adding that “the same police can also arrest KP Oli.”
Although he requested that the speech not be recorded or circulated, the video spread widely on social media, bringing his remarks under public and institutional attention.
Police Leadership Reviews Remarks and Past Complaints
Kailali District Police Office chief SP Narendra Chand confirmed that Chaudhary had been summoned for questioning.
Police officials say the process is intended not only to understand the context in which the statements were made but also to review other issues linked to his conduct within the organisation.
The development reflects a broader concern inside the police institution over how officers represent the organisation in public forums, particularly when comments risk being interpreted as political or inconsistent with institutional discipline.
Earlier Complaints Also Under Examination
Police sources indicate that complaints involving Chaudhary’s working style, discipline and execution of official responsibilities have previously reached both district authorities and Police Headquarters.
Those concerns include:
- Questions over his adherence to organisational directives.
- Previous requests for clarification regarding internal disciplinary matters.
- Allegations related to the seizure of goods during market inspections and their subsequent return.
Officials are also reviewing those matters as part of the ongoing process.
No Serious Financial Misconduct Alleged
Police leadership has clarified that there are currently no serious allegations linking Chaudhary to financial irregularities.
The present review is focused on his public statements, organisational discipline and complaints concerning his performance and professional conduct. Authorities say the inquiry and consultation process will continue before any further decision is made.
