Traffic police in Kathmandu Valley took action against 2,076 drivers for violating traffic rules over the past 24 hours, reflecting the continued focus on road safety enforcement across the capital. The latest figures show that offences ranged from drink-driving and speeding to lane discipline violations and illegal ride-sharing operations, with the crackdown also contributing nearly Rs 2 million in government revenue.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said 68 drivers were booked for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

The office also penalised 129 drivers for providing ride-sharing services in violation of existing regulations. Another 126 were found breaching traffic signals, while 189 drivers were cited for speeding.

Wide Range of Traffic Violations Recorded

Authorities said enforcement teams also acted against motorists involved in other common offences.

  • 139 drivers for failing to maintain lane discipline
  • 124 drivers for using horns in prohibited areas
  • 85 drivers for parking on footpaths or in restricted locations
  • 59 drivers for driving on one-way roads
  • 1,157 drivers for various other traffic rule violations

The figures underline that routine traffic offences continue to account for the largest share of daily enforcement, even as police maintain targeted checks against more serious violations such as drink-driving and excessive speeding.

Nearly Rs 2 Million Collected in a Day

Traffic police said regular monitoring and roadside inspections have been kept in place across the valley as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.

According to the office, the actions taken during the past 24 hours generated Rs 1,971,509 in revenue for the state through fines and related legal procedures.
