Kirtipur Holding Centre Resident Arrested After Video Post

A man living at the Kirtipur holding centre for landless families has been arrested after allegedly posting a video on social media in which he displayed a kukri and warned of violence if the long-standing demands of landless people were not addressed. Police have treated the post as a matter of public safety, underscoring growing scrutiny of online content that is seen as encouraging violence or disturbing public order.

Police launch investigation over social media post

Police identified the arrested man as 39-year-old Dambar Tamang of Arun Rural Municipality in Bhojpur, who had been staying at the holding centre in Kirtipur.

According to police, Tamang shared a video on social media in which he was seen holding a kukri while warning that he would attack with it if the problems faced by landless communities remained unresolved.

Authorities said the video was viewed as an act that could threaten public peace and security, prompting legal action.

Case under further investigation

The investigation is being carried out by the Singha Durbar Police Circle.

Police have also warned that anyone using social media to incite violence or engage in activities that could endanger public safety will face legal action under existing laws.
