Trump Says US Will Always Stand With India and Modi
Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in New Delhi and said India can fully rely on American support when needed.
US President Donald Trump has openly praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the United States would always stand with India whenever needed and that he has complete trust in Modi’s leadership.
Trump made the remarks during a phone address at an event held Sunday at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi to mark 250 years of American independence. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor connected Trump to the gathering over the phone.
‘India Can Fully Count on Me’
During his address, Trump said India could “trust him 100 percent” and added that India already knows where to reach out if support is ever needed. He indicated that the United States would continue backing India in difficult moments.
Speaking about Modi, Trump described himself as a “big admirer” of the Indian prime minister. He also asked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to convey his greetings to Modi.
Trump Praises Marco Rubio
Trump also praised Rubio, saying he could become one of the finest Secretaries of State in American history.
At the event, Ambassador Sergio Gor said the relationship between Trump and Modi remains unusually close. He said discussions with Trump often begin with conversations about Modi and India.
Gor described India-US ties as more than a diplomatic partnership and said the relationship is built on trust and long-term cooperation.
India-US Partnership Expanding Further
Gor clarified that the “America First” policy does not mean America alone and said both countries are looking for opportunities that benefit each other. He added that the US Embassy in India helped facilitate nearly $20.5 billion in investment into the United States this year.
Rubio also said relations between India and the United States are becoming stronger. He expressed hope that a trade agreement between the two countries could be reached soon.
During his India visit, Rubio also held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Tariff Policy Adds Economic Strain
Rubio’s India visit comes at a time when trade tensions between the two countries have started drawing attention following tariff measures introduced by the Trump administration.
The US administration recently increased duties on certain Indian products, raising concerns over bilateral trade relations.
Joint Push Against Terrorism
Speaking at the event, Jaishankar said India and the United States are continuing joint cooperation against terrorism and stressed the need for “zero tolerance” toward terror activities.
He also said India-US relations have become even more important in the changing global environment. Cooperation between the two countries is expanding across trade, defence, technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, energy, space, education and healthcare.
