Western winds, local wind patterns and a low-pressure system developing toward eastern Nepal are influencing weather conditions across the country, bringing a mix of rainfall, cloud cover and rising heat in different regions.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said cloud formation has increased over the hilly and Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Mountain regions in Karnali and Sudurpaschim are also seeing unsettled weather, while much of Madhesh and several parts of Lumbini remain partly cloudy. Most Tarai districts are still experiencing mainly clear skies.

Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is already occurring in some areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. Light rainfall has also been recorded at one or two locations in Bagmati Province.

Rain Likely in Hill Regions

Weather officials expect partly to generally cloudy conditions through Monday in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Some places may witness moderate rainfall along with thunder and lightning.

There is also a possibility of light snowfall in higher hilly and Himalayan areas.

Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, particularly in hilly and mountain districts.

Most Tarai areas, however, are likely to remain mostly clear.

Heatwave Risk in Western Tarai

The weather office has warned of rising heat in western Nepal, especially across Tarai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces where hot wind conditions and heatwave-like temperatures may develop.

Officials say the heat could also affect some hilly regions as temperatures continue to rise.

Tonight, cloud cover is expected to persist across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Partial cloud conditions are also likely in hilly areas of other provinces, while much of the Tarai may remain clear overnight.

Meteorologists have warned that thunderstorm activity and rainfall may continue at a few places during the night as well.
