Kyiv,The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has taken a more aggressive turn, with recent waves of missile and drone attacks striking cities and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine, sparking widespread fear among the public.

Massive Russian Air Assault Across Ukraine

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russian forces launched over 40 missiles and more than 400 drones in a single day, targeting various parts of the country. While Ukrainian air defense systems managed to intercept some of them, the strikes resulted in significant casualties and damage.

Residential Areas and Infrastructure Damaged

Several residential buildings and public facilities in major cities, including the capital Kyiv, were severely damaged. In a statement on social media platform X, President Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, saying Russia “never changes” and described the attacks as part of a deliberate psychological strategy.

Ukraine’s Counterattack Targets Russian Military Airfields

In response, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive deep inside Russian territory. According to Ukrainian intelligence sources, an operation dubbed “Spider’s Web” targeted four Russian military airfields located thousands of kilometers away from Ukrainian territory. Ukraine claims to have destroyed 41 Russian aircraft, including the Tupolev Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers, as well as the A-50 early-warning aircraft. These bombers are larger than typical fighter jets and are capable of carrying heavier payloads over long distances.

Russian Retaliation Hits Northern Ukrainian City

Meanwhile, Russia conducted a separate drone strike on the northern Ukrainian city of Pryluky early Thursday morning. The attack claimed the lives of at least five people, including a one-year-old child, according to local authorities. The child’s mother and grandmother were also killed in the strike. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy revealed that the child was the grandson of an emergency service worker.

Civilians Killed in Residential Drone Attack

The drone strike, which involved six unmanned aerial vehicles targeting residential areas at approximately 5:30 a.m., left six others injured, all of whom have been hospitalized. Pryluky, a city with a population of around 50,000, lies roughly 100 kilometers east of Kyiv and is not known to house any military infrastructure.

Timing Raises Tensions After U.S.-Russia Phone Call

The timing of the attack came just hours after a phone call between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which Putin reportedly warned of a retaliatory response to Ukraine’s recent drone offensive on Russian airbases.

Over 100 Drone Strikes and Missile Launches in One Night

President Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched a total of 103 drone strikes overnight, along with ballistic missile attacks, affecting regions including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipro, and Kherson.

Zelenskyy Calls for Stronger International Response

“This is another massive assault,” Zelenskyy said. “It is yet another reason for tougher sanctions and stronger collective pressure on Russia.”

Growing Civilian Toll Deepens Crisis

As peace talks appear increasingly distant, the war has entered a volatile new phase. Analysts warn that the growing scale of civilian casualties and destruction may further destabilize not just Ukraine and Russia, but the wider region, with far-reaching geopolitical implications.
