Kathmandu — CPN-UML lawmaker Suhang Nembang has stressed that Nepal’s ongoing political uncertainty must be resolved in a way that preserves the spirit of the constitution.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Nembang noted that President Ram Chandra Poudel and the Chief of Army Staff are in talks with representatives of the Gen Z movement, expressing confidence that the concerns of young protesters can be addressed within a democratic and constitutional framework.
Solutions Must Uphold the Constitution
Nembang said that even if the principle of necessity were to be applied, the outcome should not undermine the core values of the constitution. “We must move forward with wisdom, patience, and restraint, keeping in mind not only today’s situation but also the future of generations to come,” he stated.
He condemned the use of force against young people and students who had taken to the streets out of concern for their future. “It was absolutely wrong to unleash brutal repression on children and young citizens who had gathered with appeals, concerns, and frustrations about the fate of their country,” he said.
Nembang described the Gen Z-led demonstrations as historic and unprecedented, noting that they began with ideals, dreams, and a sense of responsibility. “From the very first day, I expressed my deep respect for that movement, which carried the potential to shape a new chapter in Nepal’s history,” he added.
Call for Accountability
Calling the deaths of young demonstrators a matter of national shame, Nembang urged that those responsible for violence and mismanagement be held to account.
“I said it then and I repeat now — who were the actors behind such immaturity, recklessness, irresponsibility, and inhumanity? There must be an impartial investigation, and the guilty must be punished under the law,” he declared.
