Sobita Gautam Appointed Nepal’s Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs

Sobita Gautam has been appointed Nepal’s Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs following her election victory from Chitwan Constituency No. 3.

Kathmandu — Sobita Gautam, a central committee member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been appointed Nepal’s Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Gautam was elected from Chitwan Constituency No. 3, where she defeated former Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal with 59,277 votes.

She had earlier won the Kathmandu-2 seat during the RSP’s first participation in national elections, defeating former Speaker Onsari Gharti. Before entering politics, Gautam worked in the media sector and hosted the health-related program “Swasthya Sarokar” on Nepal Television.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB) degree from National College under Tribhuvan University. During her parliamentary tenure, Gautam served as a member of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee.

She was involved in legislative processes and proposed amendments to bills related to land, economy, education and health. Gautam also represented Nepal at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, contributing to discussions on health and inclusive policy-making, and served as a member of a health-related committee.

Her appointment comes as Nepal continues efforts to strengthen its legal framework and institutional governance.
