Kathmandu — Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was arrested by police on Saturday morning from Katunje in Bhaktapur and is being taken to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further investigation, officials said.
The arrest is linked to incidents during the Bhadra 23 “Gen Z movement,” where fatalities were reported. A government-formed investigation commission found Lekhak responsible, citing negligence during his tenure as Home Minister at the time of the incident.
The commission recommended a prison sentence ranging from three to ten years based on its findings. Authorities proceeded with the arrest in line with these recommendations. Officials from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office confirmed that Lekhak was taken into custody as part of an ongoing legal process.
The move follows a Cabinet decision on Friday to implement the commission’s report. Police said further investigation is ongoing.
