Kathmandu — Nepal Police have arrested former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak and placed him in custody at the Armed Police Force (APF) No. 2 Battalion in Maharajgunj, according to family sources.
Lekhak was taken into custody early Saturday morning from his residence in Katunje, Bhaktapur. Police said the arrest was carried out as part of the implementation of recommendations made by an investigation commission.
The commission, led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, was formed to investigate incidents linked to the “Gen Z movement.” Authorities have begun acting on individuals identified in the report based on its findings.
Following his arrest, Lekhak was transferred to the APF facility in Maharajgunj, where he remains in custody as legal procedures continue. Prior to his arrest, Lekhak had been residing in a rented house in Suryabinayak Municipality–5, Katunje, after his private residence was damaged in a fire during the protests.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected as authorities proceed in line with the commission’s recommendations.
