Rain-Induced Slippery Road Disrupts Traffic on Butwal–Narayangadh Highway in Nawalparasi

Traffic has been disrupted along the Butwal–Narayangadh Highway in Nawalparasi after rainfall made the Daunne section slippery, causing vehicles to get stuck on uphill stretches.

NAWALPARASI — Continuous rainfall has disrupted vehicular movement along the Butwal–Narayangadh section in Nawalparasi, as muddy and slippery road conditions have made travel difficult. Vehicles have been unable to climb uphill stretches, creating a near-obstruction along the route.

Police said the road surface has become particularly hazardous around Ghiukhola and near Bishwakarma Temple in Daunne, located in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality–2 along the East–West Highway. Rain has weakened the road, causing vehicles to get stuck and preventing forward movement.

The District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), reported that rainfall since Friday afternoon has further worsened conditions. Traffic congestion has formed as vehicles—especially those traveling from east to west—struggle to ascend the slippery uphill section.

Locals said such disruptions occur even during light rainfall due to incomplete road expansion work. The Narayangadh–Butwal Road Project Office stated that efforts are ongoing to repair and manage the affected section to restore traffic flow.

Meanwhile, the project office has imposed a temporary restriction on heavy cargo vehicles during nighttime until Chaitra 8. The restriction applies daily from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to reduce traffic pressure. Smaller vehicles, long-distance passenger transport, and emergency services remain in operation, although difficulties persist.

Police have urged travelers to exercise caution and use alternative routes, warning that further disruptions are possible if rainfall continues.
