KATHMANDU — Nepal Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, has urged all revolutionary forces to rise above internal differences and unite to achieve the goal of a sovereign, self-reliant, egalitarian, and socialist Nepal.
In a statement issued on Thursday to mark the 133rd birth anniversary of Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong, Dahal highlighted the continued relevance of Mao’s political thought in the present global context.
He called on progressive forces to advance toward building a self-reliant national economy and establishing a form of democracy rooted in genuine popular ownership. “Across the world today, social inequality is deepening due to imperialism, neoliberalism, and capitalist exploitation,” Dahal said in the message.
“Interference in national sovereignty is increasing, and people’s lives are becoming increasingly insecure. In such circumstances, Chairman Mao’s ideas, his struggles, his scientific approach to resolving social contradictions, and his concept of people-centered democracy remain as relevant as ever.”
Dahal said Mao’s political legacy should not be viewed merely as part of history but as a practical guide for the present. He noted that Mao’s vision continues to offer direction for defending national independence, liberating oppressed classes, building a self-reliant national economy, and establishing genuine democracy based on people’s sovereignty.
Reflecting on Nepal’s political journey, Dahal said the country has completed an important phase of the ideological and practical struggle against feudalism. He added that this process has strengthened the communist movement’s ideological clarity, organizational capacity, and revolutionary commitment.
“In the current context, synthesizing the contributions of Marx, Lenin, Mao, and Nepal’s own revolutionary experience, while safeguarding our historic achievements and advancing decisively toward a socialist revolution, has become the central task of communist revolutionaries,” he said.
Concluding his message on the occasion of Mao Day, Dahal once again appealed to all revolutionary forces to set aside differences and unite in pursuit of a sovereign, self-reliant, egalitarian, and socialist Nepal.
