PM Sushila Karki Calls to Maintain Election Standards After Nepal’s 2082 Parliamentary Polls

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called for maintaining the standards set during Nepal’s 2082 parliamentary elections, citing peaceful conduct, strong youth participation, and improved global confidence.

Kathmandu — Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called for the continuation of standards established during Nepal’s House of Representatives elections, 2082 , emphasizing their importance for future electoral processes.

Peaceful Election and Strengthened Global Image

Speaking at a reception organized by the Election Commission Nepal at its Bahadur Bhawan premises following the successful completion of the parliamentary elections, Karki said the polls were conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and credible manner.

She highlighted that no re-polling was required at any polling station across the country, describing it as a key benchmark that should be maintained in upcoming elections.

“The recent elections have strengthened Nepal’s image at the international level and increased global confidence in the country,” Karki said, adding that the process reinforced constitutional governance and democratic values.

Challenges, Youth Participation and Future Commitment

Recalling the situation at the time she assumed office, the prime minister noted that Nepal was facing political uncertainty, legal ambiguity, and security sensitivities. She said conducting the elections under such conditions posed significant challenges for both the government and the Election Commission.

However, she credited the successful completion of the elections to the commission’s determination and the government’s cooperation.

Karki also highlighted the strong participation of young voters, noting that around one million new voters registered through a voter roll update process introduced via ordinance and took part in the elections.

She thanked the Election Commission for conducting free, fair, impartial, and fear-free elections, and stressed the need to sustain these standards in the future.
