Senior leader Jitendra Narayan Dev has announced his resignation from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), citing serious dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and internal functioning. Issuing a statement on Monday, Dev confirmed that he has formally left the CPN-UML.
In the statement, Dev criticized party chair KP Sharma Oli, accusing the leadership of pushing the party toward personality-centric politics. He stated that growing individualism and leader glorification have weakened the party’s ideological direction.
Dev also alleged that the party is being run in an arbitrary and discriminatory manner, saying that internal democracy and equal treatment have been undermined. He said he could no longer agree with the party’s ideology, policies, and conduct, which ultimately led to his decision to leave.
He further expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s approach to the Gen Z movement, objecting to attempts to portray it as a foreign conspiracy. According to Dev, such views ignore genuine social discontent.
Dev had joined the CPN-UML two years ago after leaving the Nepali Congress. However, citing widening differences between expectations and practice, he said he was compelled to part ways with the CPN-UML. His departure has once again brought internal dissatisfaction and leadership-related criticism within the party into public discussion.
