Gandaki Cabinet Reshuffle Sparks Power Shift as New Ministers Sworn In

Congress–UML deal drives cabinet overhaul, signaling shifts in policy direction and provincial power balance

A cabinet reshuffle in Gandaki Province saw newly appointed ministers sworn in on Wednesday, signaling a shift in the provincial power balance. The move, driven by a Congress–UML agreement, is expected to influence policy priorities and governance direction.

Gandaki Province Governor Dilli Raj Bhatt administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers at the Nepal Tourism Board office.

Congress–UML Deal Drives Cabinet Overhaul

The reshuffle follows an agreement between Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey and UML parliamentary leader Khagraj Adhikari to reorganize the cabinet. The deal is seen as an effort to maintain political stability by balancing power between the two ruling parties. However, analysts say its long-term policy impact remains uncertain.

New Ministers Assigned Key Portfolios

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, from the Nepali Congress, Jeet Sherchan has been appointed Minister for Economic Affairs, Nanda Prasad Neupane as Minister for Energy and Drinking Water, Rekha Gurung as Minister for Social Development, and Namdu Gurung as Minister for Forest and Environment.

From the UML, Govinda Bahadur Nepali has been appointed Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, Yashoda Rimal for Industry and Tourism, Laxman Pandey for Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, and Bhim Karki as Minister for Health.

Policy Direction Under Watch

With new faces leading key ministries, attention has shifted to how the government’s priorities and performance may change. Sectors such as infrastructure, health, and social development are expected to see renewed focus.

Observers note that while the reshuffle may bring short-term stability, its success will depend on effective policy implementation.

Political Signal from Gandaki

The reshuffle underscores continued cooperation between Congress and UML in Gandaki Province. At the same time, it raises expectations for delivery amid growing public scrutiny. The performance of the new ministers in the coming months will likely determine whether the reshuffle strengthens governance or deepens political challenges.
