Kathmandu — Former Irrigation Minister and senior Communist Party of Nepal leader Umesh Yadav has joined the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal. Yadav formally entered the party on Tuesday during a program where party chair Upendra Yadav welcomed him with a traditional scarf and handed him party membership.
Before his departure, the Communist Party of Nepal had recommended Yadav as its candidate from the Saptari–2 constituency. Yadav was elected to the Constituent Assembly from Saptari–3 in the 2013 election. Since then, however, he has not been able to secure electoral victory.
In the 2017 general election, he was defeated by Upendra Yadav. In the most recent election, Yadav contested the provincial assembly seat from Saptari 2 (2) but lost to Janamat Party candidate Mahesh Yadav.
Active for years in Madhes-based politics, Yadav’s move to the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal marks a new phase in his political journey.
