Complaints have been filed against five candidates from four districts after nomination registration for the coming House of Representatives election, said the Election Commission of Nepal. The Commission said complaints were registered from Sunsari-2, Rautahat-1, Bhaktapur-2 and Kailali-1 during the time given for filing objection.

The candidates facing complaint are Lal Bikram Thapa from Sunsari-2, Madhav Kumar Nepal from Rautahat-1, Resham Chaudhary from Kailali-1, and Rajiv Khatri and Januka Pathak from Bhaktapur-2. According to the Commission, the complaints were filed from 10 am to 3 pm on the day fixed for objection, after nomination papers were registered in all 165 constituencies.

The reasons mentioned in complaints are different. Some are about financial dues not cleared, some are about cases which are still under investigation, and some are related to court decisions. The Election Commission said it has not opened full details of the complaints.

Officials said complaints were filed under the House of Representatives Election Directive, 2082, which allows people to question candidate eligibility during election time. After the objection period finished, Election Officers in concerned areas published notice asking candidates to come with evidence and explain. Candidates will be given chance to reply on the issues raised.

As per election schedule, checking of nomination papers and complaints will continue till Magh 8. The final list of candidates will be published on Magh 9 and election symbols will be given on the same day. The Election Commission said it is still studying the complaints. Final decision will be taken after review is completed. Details will be shared later.
