Kiran Pandit NRB Deputy Governor appointment has been confirmed as the government filled a key leadership vacancy at Nepal Rastra Bank through a Cabinet decision on Tuesday.
The government appointed Pandit for a five-year term after two deputy governor posts became vacant following the tenure completion of Dr. Neelam Dhungana and Bam Bahadur Mishra. Despite both positions being open, only one has been filled so far.
As per the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, Governor Dr. Bishwanath Paudel had recommended four executive directors for the vacant roles. From the shortlist, Pandit was selected, while the second position remains unfilled for now.
Experienced Regulator with Strong Track Record
Pandit currently serves as Executive Director of the Foreign Exchange Management Department at Nepal Rastra Bank. Having joined the central bank in 2066 BS, he has risen to the deputy governor position within nearly two decades.
He is widely regarded as a strong regulator, known for making firm decisions even under pressure from interest groups. During his tenure in the regulatory division, he played a key role in implementing working capital loan guidelines despite resistance from the business community.
Pandit has held leadership roles across multiple departments, including bank supervision, financial institution regulation, financial inclusion, consumer protection, and payment systems. Before becoming executive director, he served for years as a director in the regulatory division.
The appointment of Kiran Pandit NRB Deputy Governor is expected to strengthen regulatory leadership and policy execution at a time when Nepal’s financial sector faces ongoing structural challenges.
