UML Supporters Dispersed by Police Near Singha Durbar South Gate Amid Kathmandu Protests

Kathmandu — Security personnel dispersed supporters of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) near the southern gate of Singha Durbar on Saturday after demonstrators attempted to enter a restricted government zone.

A group of protesters, who had been staging demonstrations in the Babarmahal area, advanced toward the Singha Durbar south gate via the road leading from the district court, chanting slogans. Police deployed at the site intervened and prevented them from proceeding further, dispersing the crowd.

Authorities maintained that the Singha Durbar premises are a restricted area. As demonstrators gathered and continued chanting, security personnel used batons to clear the crowd. One UML supporter was injured during the baton charge, sustaining a head injury. Fellow protesters transported the injured individual to a hospital for treatment.

Protests continued in the Babarmahal area following the incident. The demonstrations also disrupted traffic along the Maitighar–Baneshwor road section, halting vehicle movement from the afternoon.
