Kathmandu — Leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have intensified discussions to finalize the formation of a new government, with consultations focused on selecting members of the cabinet.
Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah are engaged in ongoing talks regarding potential ministerial appointments, according to party sources.
The discussions began after newly elected lawmakers took the oath of office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat and the party formally elected Shah as its parliamentary party leader. The two leaders are currently continuing consultations at Lamichhane’s residence in Budhanilkantha.
Cabinet Size Likely to Be Reduced
The RSP is considering limiting the number of ministries to between 15 and 18 as part of its government formation strategy. The proposal is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and reducing operational costs.
Ministerial Candidates Under Discussion
Internal discussions have included several senior party leaders and lawmakers. Deputy chairpersons DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagle are among those being considered for ministerial roles.
Other names under discussion include General Secretary Sunil Lamsal, spokesperson Manish Jha, and lawmakers Shishir Khanal, Sobita Gautam, Rajunath Pandey, and Sasmit Pokharel. According to party sources, minister selection will be guided by considerations of competence, performance capability, and regional balance.
The RSP is expected to adopt a streamlined governance approach, emphasizing a smaller cabinet and clearly defined responsibilities as it prepares to lead the new government.
