Parsa District Court set bail at Rs 415,000 in two separate cases linked to alleged falsified documents and citizenship records, while legal proceedings continue.

Mayor of Birgunj Rajesh Man Singh has been ordered released on bail by the Parsa District Court, but the legal case surrounding allegations of falsified civil records and citizenship documents is far from over. The court’s decision allows Singh to remain out of custody while proceedings continue, placing fresh attention on a case that touches on the integrity of public records and local government accountability.

Court Sets Bail in Two Separate Charges

The Parsa District Court fixed a total bail amount of Rs 415,000 for Singh in connection with two different offences.

Judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi ordered:

  • Rs 400,000 bail in a case related to document-related offences.
  • Rs 15,000 bail in a case involving allegations of obtaining citizenship through false information.

Following the order, Singh began the process of depositing the bail amount required by the court.

Allegations Linked to Birth Registration and Citizenship

The case centers on allegations that the daughter of another person was registered as Singh’s own daughter in official records. Investigators claim that the registration was later used in efforts to obtain citizenship and a passport.

Authorities have alleged that false information was used in official government documents, leading to charges related to forged or improper documentation as well as citizenship obtained through inaccurate details.

The case has also drawn in Rita Bhattarai and Bhikhari Raya, the then local registrar of Ward No. 3 of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

Arrest Followed Court Warrant

A few days before the bail order, the Parsa District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Singh.

A special police team later took him into custody from the Thori area of Parsa and presented him before the court. Police say the investigation has been proceeding in line with court directives.

Legal Battle Continues

The bail order does not settle the allegations against the Birgunj mayor.

The case will now move into regular court hearings and further legal examination of the evidence presented by both sides. Prosecutors have sought action under provisions of Nepal’s criminal law related to forged public and official documents.

For Singh, the immediate question of custody has been resolved. The larger question—whether the allegations can be proven in court—remains unanswered and will be decided through the judicial process ahead.
