Prachanda Accuses Congress–UML of Fabricated Allegations Against Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar

Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has accused Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of fabricating allegations to justify their attempt to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.

Congress and UML are reported to be collecting signatures from lawmakers to register a proposal citing misconduct as grounds for her removal. Rana Magar, currently in the United States, is expected to face the motion once she returns to Nepal.

“No Evidence Against Deputy Speaker”

Prachanda said there is no credible evidence showing that Rana Magar committed any misconduct. He argued the attempt reflects a continuation of mistakes made by the ruling parties since forming the government.

“The attempt to oust her is not new, but it is wrong. This government has done nothing but make errors since its inception. Now they are targeting a woman who is not only a Deputy Speaker but also internationally recognized for her work in social service and child welfare. Removing her without valid reasons is unjust,” Prachanda stated.

The controversy began after a letter written by Rana Magar, requesting a rescheduling of a US Embassy interview, became public last year. The letter sparked questions about possible misuse of authority. However, Prachanda dismissed the matter as baseless, calling it “a story built on imagination” rather than fact.
