Nepal Public Accounts Committee Meeting Postponed Over Quorum Shortfall
Nepal’s Public Accounts Committee postponed today’s meeting due to insufficient members present. The session aimed to review complaints about truck load limits that threaten roads, bridges, and public safety.
Kathmandu – The Public Accounts Committee of Nepal’s House of Representatives has postponed its scheduled meeting after failing to meet the required quorum. Secretary Ekram Giri confirmed that only 12 out of 26 committee members attended, leading to the session being deferred until further notice.
Under Rule 182 of the House of Representatives Rules 2079, at least 51 percent of committee members must be present for a meeting to proceed. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss a complaint regarding truck load capacities.
The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Association submitted the complaint, stating that existing regulations on vehicle load limits are not being effectively enforced. They warned that overloading trucks damages roads and bridges and increases the risk of accidents.
The complaint also pointed out that many freight vehicles operate beyond the limits set by the 2074 Load-Carrying Directive for Trucks. The committee had planned to review the issue in detail, with attention to infrastructure protection and road safety.
