House and National Assembly sessions focus on ordinances, leadership vote, and human rights report

Nepal’s Federal Parliament meeting is underway Monday, with both houses set to discuss key ordinances and leadership decisions in a crucial day of legislative activity.

The House of Representatives will meet at 1:00 PM, where three key ordinances are expected to be presented for approval. Home Minister Sudan Gurung is likely to table proposals seeking endorsement of the Voter List (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2082, the House of Representatives Member Election (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2082, and the Nepal Special Service (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2082. These measures are aimed at strengthening electoral processes and improving administrative systems.

Earlier in the day, the National Assembly will convene at 12:15 PM at Singha Durbar. During the session, National Assembly member Prem Prasad Dangol is expected to propose the election of Lila Kumari Bhandari as the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly. The move is part of ongoing efforts to fill key leadership roles within the upper house.

This Federal Parliament meeting is also set to include the presentation of the National Human Rights Commission’s 24th Annual Report for the fiscal year 2080/081. Prime Minister Balendra Shah is scheduled to table the report, which highlights the country’s human rights situation and outlines recommendations for further improvements.

The Federal Parliament meeting is seen as a significant step toward advancing governance reforms and strengthening institutional accountability. The ordinances under discussion could directly impact Nepal’s electoral framework and administrative efficiency.

The outcomes of this Federal Parliament meeting are expected to shape upcoming legislative priorities and policy decisions in the near future.
