Breaking: Gagan Thapa Loses Sarlahi-4 Election to RSP’s Amaresh Kumar Singh

Nepali Congress Chair Gagan Thapa has suffered his first electoral defeat after losing the Sarlahi-4 parliamentary seat to Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Amaresh Kumar Singh.

Sarlahi — Nepali Congress Chair Gagan Kumar Thapa has been defeated in the House of Representatives election from Sarlahi Constituency-4, marking the first electoral loss of his political career.

According to the final vote count completed a short while ago, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Amaresh Kumar Singh secured 35,688 votes, defeating Thapa, who received 22,831 votes.

The result gave Singh a victory margin of 12,857 votes, confirming his win in the constituency.

Amaresh Kumar Singh Completes Hat-Trick Victory

With this victory, Amaresh Kumar Singh has completed a hat-trick of wins in Sarlahi-4, strengthening his political influence in the constituency.

Singh has previously represented the constituency in parliament and has maintained a strong local political base over the years. The latest election result once again demonstrates his continued support among voters in the region.

Political observers say Singh’s consistent presence in the constituency and his local organizational strength played a key role in securing the latest victory.

First Electoral Defeat for Gagan Thapa

The defeat is widely seen as a major political setback for Nepali Congress Chair Gagan Thapa, who had previously maintained a strong winning record in elections.

Thapa first entered parliament in 2008 (2064 BS) through the proportional representation system during the Constituent Assembly election. He later went on to win three consecutive elections from Kathmandu-4, building a reputation as one of the prominent leaders within the Nepali Congress.

However, in this election, Thapa decided to contest from Sarlahi-4 in Madhesh Province instead of his traditional Kathmandu constituency.

Despite being a nationally recognized political figure and recently becoming the Chair of the Nepali Congress, Thapa was unable to secure enough local support in the new constituency and ultimately faced defeat.

Result Draws Attention Across National Politics

The outcome from Sarlahi-4 has drawn significant attention across Nepal’s political landscape, particularly because it involves one of the country’s most prominent political figures.

The result also highlights the growing influence of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which has been securing notable victories in several constituencies during the current parliamentary election.

Election officials confirmed that the vote counting process in the constituency has been completed, and the formal announcement of the final result is expected shortly.

The defeat of a major national leader such as Gagan Thapa in Sarlahi-4 is likely to remain one of the most talked-about outcomes of this election cycle.
