DP Aryal Set to Become Speaker Unopposed

Only candidate in Speaker race, Aryal likely to be declared elected without contest on Sunday

DP Aryal Speaker election has taken a decisive turn, with Rastriya Swatantra Party leader DP Aryal emerging as the sole candidate, clearing the way for his unopposed appointment as Nepal’s Speaker.

The nomination process, which remained open until 2 PM on Friday, ended with only Aryal filing his candidacy for the top parliamentary role. As vice president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), he is now set to assume one of the most powerful constitutional positions in Nepal’s federal parliament.

Earlier, there were expectations that CPN-UML would field a candidate, signaling a potential contest. However, the party did not register any nomination before the deadline, effectively removing any competition and leaving Aryal alone in the race.

Officials at the Federal Parliament Secretariat confirmed that no additional nominations were submitted within the designated timeframe. With the process now complete, Aryal’s path in the DP Aryal Speaker election is effectively uncontested.

The development highlights evolving parliamentary dynamics, where major parties appear to favor a consensus approach for key leadership roles. As Speaker, Aryal will be required to maintain strict neutrality while overseeing parliamentary proceedings.

Once formally confirmed, he will preside over House sessions, ensure order during debates, and uphold constitutional norms. His leadership will be closely observed as Nepal’s Parliament enters a crucial legislative phase.

The DP Aryal Speaker election will conclude on Sunday, when he is set to be officially declared Speaker unopposed, marking a significant moment in Nepal’s political landscape.
