Balen Shah Selected as RSP Parliamentary Leader, Set to Become Nepal Prime Minister

Balen Shah has been unanimously chosen as the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s parliamentary leader, positioning him to become Nepal’s next prime minister.

Kathmandu — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has unanimously selected Balen Shah as its parliamentary party leader, positioning him to become the country’s next prime minister.

The decision was made during a central committee meeting held Thursday at the party’s central office in Chahmati. Party spokesperson Manish Jha said the proposal to appoint Shah was presented by party chairman Rabi Lamichhane and approved unanimously.

Shah had already been projected as the party’s prime ministerial candidate ahead of the elections. The formal endorsement now completes the internal process required for leadership selection.

Leadership Decision Follows Strong Electoral Performance

The party secured nearly a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives, strengthening Shah’s path to forming a government. Following the central committee decision, a joint meeting of the parliamentary party and central leadership was also held to finalize the process.

With Shah’s selection as parliamentary leader, the constitutional pathway for him to assume the office of prime minister has opened. He is expected to take the oath of office on Friday.
