Kathmandu — CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has recalled two significant events in his life, remembering the Sukani martyrs and the sixth anniversary of his second kidney transplant. In a message shared on social media, Oli said the day marks Sukani Martyrs’ Day and also the date when he underwent his second kidney transplant six years ago.
“Today is a day of two coincidences in my life. Today is Sukani Martyrs’ Day, and it is also the day when my second kidney transplant was performed six years ago. Both are days when I returned from the face of death,” Oli wrote.
Oli said the Jhapa movement had raised a rebellion against the autocratic system. During that period, he recalled that he had also been imprisoned. He also remembered the killing of Jhapa movement activists Ramnath Dahal, Netra Ghimire, Biren Rajbanshi, Krishna Kuinkel and Narayan Rajbanshi. According to him, they were taken to the Sukani forest under the pretext of being transferred from prison and were killed there.
Oli said he had narrowly escaped death during that period and later spent 14 years in prison. He paid tribute to the martyrs Ramnath Dahal, Netra Ghimire, Biren Rajbanshi, Krishna Kuinkel and Narayan Rajbanshi, honoring their sacrifice in the struggle against the autocratic system and for democracy.
Oli also said Falgun 21 remains a day he can never forget. He is a candidate from Jhapa Constituency-5 in the House of Representatives election but did not travel to Jhapa on Thursday. Earlier in the day, he cast his vote at a polling center in Balkot, Bhaktapur.
