New York — At the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that if Russia is not contained, the war could spread and intensify. He urged allied nations to remain united and continue their support, cautioning that other countries could also face the risk of Russian aggression.
Zelensky said the world has entered a new stage of the arms race, with military technology advancing at unprecedented speed. He noted that artificial intelligence (AI)-powered drones and unmanned aircraft are becoming far more dangerous than conventional warfare and called for global regulations to govern their use.
Security Concerns in Europe
The Ukrainian president warned that Moldova could soon come under threat if decisive action is not taken. He pointed to the West’s past failures to defend Georgia and Belarus, saying Europe cannot afford to lose another neighbor to Russian influence. Moldovan President Maia Sandu also accused the Kremlin of pouring hundreds of millions of euros into spreading fear and violence.
U.S.–Russia Dialogue and Reactions
Zelensky described his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as “positive.” According to him, Washington signaled a willingness to provide security guarantees after the war ends, though details remain unclear. Trump recently stated that with European Union and NATO backing, Ukraine could reclaim all of its territory—a sharp contrast to his earlier proposal of “land swaps.”
Moscow rejected such remarks. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “Russia is not a paper tiger; it is a bear. And there is no such thing as a paper bear.” Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the highest-level U.S.–Russia talks since Trump invited President Vladimir Putin to Alaska. U.S. officials said Rubio urged Moscow to take swift steps toward halting the war and moving toward a sustainable solution.
