Kathmandu — Veteran democratic movement leader Homanath Dahal has passed away. Dahal had been undergoing treatment at his own residence in Maitidevi for some time after suffering from knee-related health problems.
The 84-year-old leader was taken to Bir Hospital late last night after suffering a heart attack. He passed away during the course of treatment, according to family sources. Dahal previously served as Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and was also a former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists.
Born in the then Baruneshwar Village Panchayat of Okhaldhunga district, Dahal served as editor of Rastrapukar Weekly, the official mouthpiece of the Nepali Congress. He had also held responsibilities as a district committee member of the Nepali Congress in Okhaldhunga and later as a central committee member of the then Nepali Congress (Democratic).
According to family sources, his last rites will be performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Following his demise, the Nepali Congress has called a Central Working Committee meeting scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 am to pass a condolence motion.
