Upendra Yadav, chairman of the Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal, said the protection and future of Nepal’s federal system depend largely on the strong and vigilant role of Madhes Province.
Speaking at an election rally in Saptari, Yadav stated that federalism in Nepal was achieved through prolonged struggle, sacrifice, and political movements, particularly in Madhes. He said the province played a central role in establishing the federal structure that currently governs the country.
Yadav alleged that certain political forces are attempting to weaken the federal system by reducing provincial powers and steering the country back toward centralized governance. He warned that such efforts could undermine democratic practice and erode the constitutional framework built after years of political reform.
A candidate for the House of Representatives from Saptari Constituency No. 3, Yadav said Madhes remains a decisive force in safeguarding federalism. “If Madhes remains strong and alert, federalism will remain secure. If Madhes becomes passive, the system itself will weaken,” he told supporters.
He emphasized that sustaining Nepal’s federal structure requires firm political commitment and full implementation of constitutional provisions. According to Yadav, provinces must be guaranteed adequate economic, administrative, and policy-making authority to function effectively.
Yadav also stressed the need for inclusive development, equal access to opportunities, and stronger institutional capacity in Madhes, describing these measures as essential to preserving federal governance.
Concluding his address, he urged voters to remain aware of their role in protecting federalism, constitutional rights, and political dignity. He called on the public to support his party through the ballot, stating that electoral mandate is the most powerful mechanism in a democratic system.
