Senior CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has commented on the parliament restoration case after the Supreme Court postponed its hearing until after the scheduled elections. Baskota made the remarks following the court’s decision to defer the hearing on petitions seeking the restoration of the House of Representatives.
Lawmakers from the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress had filed petitions at the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the dissolved parliament. The court has decided to conduct the hearing only after the march 5 elections.
Reacting to the decision, Baskota said the Supreme Court appeared to have “made it snow in anticipation of parliament restoration,” using a metaphorical expression. He added that political parties should now focus on collecting public support without engaging in further speculation, stating that electoral victory depends on winning public opinion.
He further said that while alliance leaders may form political agreements, the ultimate mandate lies with the people. According to him, it would be difficult to break the public’s mandate. In a subsequent remark, Baskota stated that the possibility of political maneuvering still exists until the final stage of the process.
