Kathmandu — The final rites of late senior actor Sunil Thapa will be performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat. The cremation will take place after his family members arrive in Kathmandu from Mumbai.
Prior to the cremation, Thapa’s mortal remains will be kept for tributes, according to artist association member Gopal Dhakal. Thapa passed away this morning due to a heart attack while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali. He had been living in an apartment in Shankhamul.
A long-time figure in both the Nepali and Indian film industries, Thapa was known for elevating villain roles in Nepali cinema to a level of recognition and respect comparable to that of lead characters. Popularly known as “Rate Kaila,” he earned wide acclaim for his powerful performances.
Most members of his family reside in Mumbai, India.
