Sunil Bahadur Thapa Emerges Unopposed for National Assembly Seat from Koshi Province

Nepali Congress candidate Sunil Bahadur Thapa is set to enter the National Assembly from Koshi Province after emerging as the only nominee in his cluster.

Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress has become the sole nominee for a National Assembly seat from Koshi Province, making his unopposed election highly likely.

The Election Commission had opened the nomination process for National Assembly members on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Within the allotted time, no other candidate submitted nomination papers in the same cluster.

Chief of the Koshi Province Election Office, Cholraj Dangal, confirmed that only Thapa’s nomination was registered before the deadline. He stated that, procedurally, the cluster recorded a single valid nomination.

The Communist Party of Nepal had earlier selected Hemraj Ghimire of Sankhuwasabha as its candidate for the same cluster. However, Ghimire was unable to reach the election office within the designated time as he was traveling from his home district.

Ghimire, a former leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), failed to submit his nomination documents before the 3:00 p.m. deadline, after which the nomination window was officially closed.

Election officials clarified that while a formal declaration of unopposed election will be made only after completing all legal procedures, the absence of competing nominations effectively clears Thapa’s path to the National Assembly of Nepal.
