Senior leader Shekhar Koirala has begun consultations within the Nepali Congress as the party faces internal disagreements ahead of the upcoming general elections. Koirala on Saturday met with party office-bearers, central committee members, and district presidents who were present in Kathmandu. The discussions were held at his contact office in Bishalnagar, according to his secretariat.
The meeting focused on assessing the party’s current internal situation and identifying possible ways to manage differences at a time of political uncertainty in the country. Participants exchanged views on how internal disputes could be addressed in a manner that prevents further division and allows the party to move forward cohesively.
Leaders also reviewed recent decisions taken by the party’s Central Working Committee. Discussions included how coordination could be improved between the party’s general secretaries regarding the issue of a proposed special general convention and how rival groups within the party could be brought together.
Preparations for the next general elections featured prominently in the talks. Participants emphasized that contesting the polls with unity was essential and described party cohesion as both a necessity and a responsibility.
The meeting also addressed recent disciplinary actions taken by the party. Several participants expressed the view that leaders who had faced disciplinary measures should be allowed to continue in the positions they previously held, stressing that internal reconciliation would be difficult without resolving such issues.
According to Koirala’s secretariat, there was broad agreement among those present that strengthening unity within the Nepali Congress is critical as the party approaches the general elections.
