Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the ongoing US-Iran war is benefiting Russia, saying a prolonged conflict could weaken Ukraine’s position while strengthening Moscow’s economic and strategic advantage.
Economic Relief and Strategic Advantage for Russia
In a recent interview, Zelensky said Russia’s oil-dependent economy is gaining relief as global oil prices rise amid the US-Iran war. He also pointed to signs of reduced pressure from Western sanctions, suggesting that shifting global priorities are easing economic strain on Moscow. According to him, Russia has a clear interest in seeing the conflict continue.
Zelensky emphasized that the war in the Middle East is diverting Washington’s focus away from Ukraine. With the United States concentrating more on Iran, there are growing concerns in Kyiv that military support for Ukraine could slow down. He warned that such a shift could directly impact Ukraine’s defense capabilities at a critical time in its war with Russia.
