A member accompanying senior leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) during a visit to Nepal’s Sudurpaschim Province was airlifted to Kathmandu after falling ill in Achham district.
The individual has been identified as 43-year-old Dinesh Sitaula of Nuwakot, who was travelling with senior party leader Balen Shah as part of the party’s regional outreach programme. Sitaula is the immediate past president of the Film Journalists Association of Nepal.
According to police, Sitaula suddenly collapsed at around 9:45 a.m. on Friday while getting out of a vehicle in Achham and lost consciousness. Achham District Police Chief DSP Om Prasad Khanal said there were no visible external injuries on his body.
“Based on the initial observation, it appeared to be a possible heart-related issue,” DSP Khanal said. Sitaula was taken to Achham District Hospital, where he received initial treatment. As further medical evaluation and specialised care were required, authorities decided to transfer him to Kathmandu.
Police said a helicopter of the Nepali Army was used to airlift Sitaula to the capital for advanced treatment. Senior leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party arrived in Sudurpaschim a few days earlier along with a team, marking their first visit to the province as part of efforts to build an election-focused political environment.
