RSP and Bibeksheel Sajha to Announce Party Merger on Sunday

The Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party are set to announce their merger on Sunday at the National Assembly Hall, marking a key moment for Nepal’s alternative political landscape.

Kathmandu — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party are set to formally announce their merger on Sunday, marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen Nepal’s alternative political movement. The two parties will make the announcement today at 2 PM at the National Assembly Hall.

Leaders from both sides say the merger has reached its final stage with a shared goal of expanding the alternative political stream, responding to growing public demand for transparent governance, and preparing for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. They say the unification aims not only to bring organizational strength under one structure but also to send a national message about reinforcing reform-oriented politics.

Shared Political Vision

Senior leaders from both parties note that alternative politics has become increasingly relevant in Nepal’s shifting political landscape. They point to rising political awareness among younger generations and stronger civic engagement as key reasons the merger moved forward quickly.

According to them, unity is essential to deliver the change, accountability, and transparency citizens expect. After unification, the party’s name, election symbol, and top leadership structure will remain the same. Technical and organizational matters will be finalized gradually through mutual understanding at the leadership level.

Roots of the Bibeksheel Movement

The Bibeksheel political movement began in the early 2070s, founded by Ujjwal Thapa, who championed citizen-driven and reform-focused politics. Thapa, who passed away on 18 Chaitra 2078, played a central role in shaping the party’s early identity. On 11 Saun 2074, the then-Bibeksheel Party merged with the former Sajha Party to form the Bibeksheel Sajha Party.

The merger between the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, set to be announced today, is seen as an important step ahead of the upcoming elections and a defining moment for Nepal’s alternative political landscape.
