RPP Lumbini Condemns Alleged Disrespect Toward Former King Birendra’s Statue by RSP Supporters in Dang, Nepal

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Lumbini Province chapter has criticized alleged disrespectful behavior by Rastriya Swatantra Party supporters toward former King Birendra Shah’s statue in Dang, urging accountability and responsible political conduct.

The Lumbini Province chapter of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has condemned what it described as a disrespectful act by supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who allegedly climbed onto the statue of former King Birendra Shah in Dang district.

In a statement issued Friday, RPP Lumbini Province Secretary Rajendra Adhikari said the party takes serious note of the incident, which reportedly occurred at Birendra Chowk in Tulsipur as RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane was arriving in the area.

According to the statement, individuals associated with the RSP were seen standing on the statue of the former monarch and engaging in behavior the RPP described as inappropriate and offensive. The party said symbols linked to historical, cultural, and public sentiment must be treated with respect by all political actors.

The RPP urged the RSP to clarify its official position on the incident and, if necessary, issue a public apology. It also called on the party to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.

Emphasizing the broader electoral context, the statement noted that all responsible political parties have a duty to create an environment in which voters can cast their ballots freely and without fear. The RPP further appealed to political groups and individuals to promote healthy competition and refrain from actions that could negatively affect other parties or public harmony.

The incident has since drawn political attention following the circulation of visuals from the site.
